This will be a presentation by Professor Debra Skene Section Head of Chronobiology at the University of Surrey and President of the European Biological Rhythms Society. Debra has over 25 years of research experience studying the human circadian timing system and authored over 150 refereed research publications. Her paper will focus on the complexity of human photonic information processing, the role of the retina and circadian rhythms in the blind. Debra will shed light on studies conducted by her and her team at the University of Surrey into light’s influence on human chronobiology, circadian rhythms (sleep, activity, alertness) and pineal melatonin.
There will be discussions about how light can affect sleep and activity and age-related changes in the circadian timing system with reference to case studies indicating how lighting and decorations can reduce anxiety in care homes.
This event has been organised by the SLL Regional Lighting Representative, Laurie Socker.
