This is a presentation by Richard Giddings Technical Manager of the ECA and senior technical engineering professional. Richard is an Incorporated Engineer and Member of The Institution of Engineering Technology with a wealth of experience in both the design and installation fields of the industry. Richard has worked in client- side consultancy and contracting roles across all three sectors of the domestic, commercial and industrial electrical engineering industry. He has over 30 years work experience in all manner of projects, ranging from dwellings, schools, higher education, retail, leisure, and commerce as well as heavy industry.
The presentation will look at the concept of emergency lighting, the purposes it serves in relation to various situations and incidents. The structure of the new code and the additional requirements for lighting, including testing and the duration of emergency and standby lighting operation will be examined in relation to the facility it serves. Richard will also discuss the context of BS 5266-1:2016 with respect to other emergency lighting guidance including BSEN 1838 Lighting Applications - Emergency Lighting, BS 5499 Safety Signs, Including Fire Safety Signs, BSEN 50172 Emergency Escape Lighting Systems.
