The final SLL LightBytes event of the 2018-19 series will be taking place in London on 9 May 2019.
This year, the Society has collaborated with the CIBSE Facilities Management Group in developing the content for the series.
Having reformatted the SLL Masterclasses, each LightBytes event will be a day of peer reviewed, bite sized presentations, focusing on key issues relating to lighting professionals and those within related industries.
We’re living in uncertain times and our working lives face rapid transformation in the face of technological advancement and political upheaval. With increased connectivity, we are likely to see an even greater need for cross industry collaboration and these events are designed to inform, whilst providing a platform for debate and the sharing of ideas between professionals from a range of disciplines.
This year’s series will be looking at the following topics:
Within How to Specify a Luminaire, the speakers will be discussing light sources, optics, electronics and the construction of luminaires. They will be highlighting the information which should be provided by the manufacturer, along with outlining the right questions to ask when specifying a luminaire.
Retrofit and Upgrade will be looking at what needs to be considered within a retrofit project, outlining obligations in terms of safety tests along with work which, although not obligatory, would still be considered best practice. There will also be case studies relating to the retrofit of historic buildings and the introduction of mesh networks.
The Emergency Lighting section will be looking at the journey through a building, providing emergency lighting to beyond the exit door and to a place of safety. Speakers will be referencing the HM Government Fire Risk Assessment Guidance document, along with discussing requirements for emergency lighting depending on the space and whether it is within the public or private realm.
The final session of the day will be looking at the Internet of Things. Within this session, speakers will touch upon the use of smart lighting for predictive or pro-active maintenance. There will be examples of domestic and commercial applications of smart lighting, along with an overview of the types of data that can be collected and how this could be utilised for building performance. This session will also look towards the future and the potential impact of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Each year all of the presentations are brand new and peer reviewed, providing the opportunity to add 4.5 hours to your CPD.
There is a discounted ticket price for members of the Society of Light and Lighting, CIBSE or the ECA. Additionally, there is a discounted student rate to attend. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
This year we will be joined from speakers from the Society's Sponsors in Partnership, Fagerhult, Thorlux, Xicato and Zumtobel.
